Canned fish is an underrated food that deserves more space in your pantry. It may not be as sexy as getting fresh fish from the fisherman’s wharf or Granville Island, but with lots of innovative, delicious recipes being developed it is getting there! Especially when you are talking about Raincoast Trading products, which are sustainably caught, ocean-wise recommended, and hand packed right in Nanaimo, BC!

fish tacos

Crispy fish tacos with a fresh, tangy slaw and an ice cold beer may just be my favourite meal. I enjoy tacos often when eating out but I had never actually made them myself.  I had to change that.

I recently discovered that one of my good friends makes them all the time and knows the recipe by heart. When I asked her for the recipe, she listed the ingredients but didn’t have a clue how much she normally used.

Like a great cook, she just made it and it always turned out. I love that approach and use it when cooking for myself, but it doesn’t work so well when trying to blog about it.

Eat fatty fish twice a week.

Sound familiar?

Well it’s good advise (ensure you choose sustainable options), and salmon isn’t your only choice. Mackerel, herring and sardines are also great options. I love sardines but if they aren’t you’re thing  you can replace the sardines with canned or fresh, chopped salmon.

If you are vegetarian/vegan, make sure you include good sources of plant based omega 3 fats in your diet: flaxseeds, walnuts and chia seeds are great options!
